Learning to Love the Journey

Over the years, I have had a few mentors and friends encourage me to write a blog, and after it was mentioned a few times this fall by one such encourager, I started thinking maybe it was about time . . . so here we go.

I process best by writing things out, so this blog will provide a new avenue for that, as well as a place to share life’s latest adventures and nuggets along the way from Papa God. There’s no telling where this will go, but you’re welcome to come along for the journey!

The title of my blog was inspired by a theme that has been consistent in my life for nearly the past ten years of my life. At that time, I was twenty years old and full of questions for God: “What am I supposed to do with my life?”  . . . “What is my purpose?” . . . “When are you going to let me in on this plan of Yours for my life?” . . . I wanted everything mapped out and drawn in nice, neat lines – something I could make sense of. I wanted a ten step plan for life and ministry. What was the Lord’s response? It was certainly not a blueprint or a bulleted list. It was an invitation.

He did not give me what I wanted. Instead He gave me an invitation to join Him on the journey, to find Him (and myself) in the little moments along the way.

I’m the type of person who likes to see what’s up ahead – no sharp curves, no sudden moves, everything laid out and planned out. Yet the Lord invited me to something entirely different. That first “yes” that peeped out of me was tentative and a bit fearful. Yet, I said yes . . . and it was one of the best decisions of my life.

Each time I want to run, or I have reverted back to my own plans, He asks me again to trust Him, even though I cannot see yet what is up ahead, and I say yes . . . because He is worth it. And ten years later, I’m still saying yes, and I’m learning to love the journey.
